Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 2: 12-14 (KJV)
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
Are You Ready For The Activation Of Your Spiritual Senses?
The essence of life is that man will realize that there’s more to the physical, which is the spiritual, for the things which are seen are made by the things not seen. By this understanding, every man, even unbelievers seek to cover grounds not only physically, but also spiritually. As Christians, our faith and salvation in Christ releases upon us the Holy Spirit who helps us to understand spiritual things better in a new and marvelous light.
Unfortunately many Christians have done little in engaging the Holy spirit in their lives hence leaving their spiritual senses largely unexercised. If you have not yielded your life to Christ, then activating your spiritual senses cannot be possible, so the first step is to believe in your heart that Christ came to die for you and confess with your mouth that you acknowledge God’s sacrifice over your life, and henceforth you will walk in the way of the Lord (Romans 10:9-11). If you’ve done this, then you have by faith the Holy Spirit who is the teacher of spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:13). After the baptism of repentance comes the baptism of the Holy Ghost (Act 19:2-6) which enables a man to receive spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues, prophesying et al (Acts 19:6, 1 Corinthians 12:1-10).
Spiritual senses comprises of the ability to hear, see, feel, smell or perceive spiritual things. These abilities take their root from the well of the Holy Spirit in us. You may wonder how it is that I can see spiritual things, through visions and dreams (Act 10:3), hear spiritual things, through the word of God (Hebrews 1: 1-2, 4: 12) and the voice of the Holy Spirit in one’s subconscious spirit, which is usually a still nudge (Act 10: 19-20), smell or perceive spiritual things through an innate reaction of the Holy Spirit in us to situations and issues (Luke 8:46, Mark 2:8, 1 Samuel 3:8).
How Do We Activate This Sense?
- The art of fervent effectual prayer sets a man’s mind easily on spiritual things (Acts 10:2, James 5:16). Every Christian is encouraged to pray in the Spirit through Spirit led groanings (Romans 8:26-27), through tongues and praying in the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 14: 2, Jude 1:20) as this helps to activate our spiritual senses. Meditation on God’s word activates your spiritual sense of hearing (1 Timothy 4:15).
- Meditation on God’s word is an act of reminding oneself of scriptures and spiritual truths, and rehearsing them over and over again in ones heart while applying the words to one’s life. Fasting and ministering to the Lord helps to activate our spiritual sense of perceiving and hearing. Many people have misinterpreted the act of fasting as a way of abstaining from food in order to be empowered to wrath miracles, signs and wonders alone or to obtain breakthroughs. That’s a streamlined understanding of the act of fasting. fasting is an act of depriving the flesh of luxuries, such as food, material things, in order to feed the spirit man with God’s word, and prayer in order to get directions from God. Ministering to the Lord can involve engaging in services to God’s work and his people.
Here’s Brother Paul’s Take On This Matter
Paul admonished the Ephesians to be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit, why did he say this? Because of the understanding that one can have the Holy Spirit, but be less filled with it. Thus he went further to say how they can be filled by speaking to ourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19). Activating our spiritual senses is a continuous daily exercise that one must engage in to stay tuned spiritually.
Lord I pray that you give unto me the spirit of wisdom and revelation, that my eyes of understanding shall be enlightened.
I am a Spirit being and my spiritual senses receive activation.
